Music is a very important part of life at Lakeside. All children participate, from simple banging of 'instruments' in Nursery and Reception, to the singing of carols at an Old People's Home in Year 6.

A musical Christmas production is put on each year by all the children in Key Stage 1, with Nursery and Reception preparing a different performance for their parents and carers. Key Stage 2's contribution to the Christmas music is a special carol service held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, given by the choir and orchestra; together with a Christmas nativity performed by Year 3 at the local baptist church.

Year 2 participate in the local Surrey Heath Musical Festival and, recently, our choir has been asked to join the Surrey Heath Choral Society in its Christmas concerts. In addition, a summer musical is often performed by members of Key Stage 2 towards the end of the summer term. Previous performances have included 'Joseph and his amazing technicolor dreamcoat', 'Smike' and 'Rats'.

All children in Year 2 are given the opportunity to learn the recorder during the year. Other instruments (including drums, piano, guitar and a number of wind instruments) are taught by peripatetic teachers to children in Years 3-6. Children can also take 'Musical Theatre'. There is a charge for these lessons.
